About the Role - Mō te Tūranga

This is a great opportunity for an confident HR Business Partner who thrives in complex, fast‑moving environments with a particular interest in employment relations and organisational culture.

Unique to this role is the strong partnership with an Australian-based Business Partner with whom you’ll collectively support Canon’s Sales & Support Group across ANZ. You’ll leverage your strong NZ focused ER expertise and cultural literacy, while gaining exposure across Australian contexts.

You’ll operate as a true business partner, balancing strategic insight with hands‑on delivery working closely with leaders to navigate risk, resolve complex people challenges, and deliver practical, commercially sound outcomes aligned to business priorities.

You’ll work closely with senior leaders, influencing, challenging and coaching when needed and you’ll collaborate effectively across a broader HR team to ensure strong governance, legislative rigour and continuous capability uplift.

This role will suit someone who enjoys ownership, autonomy, and is motivated by making a genuine impact through trusted HR partnership.

 

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Business Partnering & Stakeholder Management
    • Build trusted, influential relationships with leaders across New Zealand and Australia
    • Develop a deep understanding of business strategy, priorities and challenges
    • Provide clear, pragmatic advice that balances commercial outcomes, risk and employee experience
    • Confidently and respectfully challenge and coach leaders
  • Employee Relations & Case Management
    • Lead and manage employee relations matters end-to-end, with a strong focus on New Zealand employment law and appetite to develop in Australian employment law as well
    • Provide practical, solutions-focused advice on performance management, conduct, restructures and change
    • Support leaders to navigate complex and sensitive people issues with confidence and capability
  • HR Advisory & Governance
    • Deliver core HR activities including policy application, compliance, performance processes, remuneration, and workforce management
    • Partner with HR Advisory, Talent Acquisition and Learning & Organisational Development to deliver aligned people solutions
    • Monitor legislative changes and emerging risks, particularly in the New Zealand employment landscape

You are a confident, credible HR Business Partner who enjoys operating with autonomy and influence. You are comfortable navigating complexity, challenging constructively, keeping professional integrity at the heart of everything you do.This is the ideal opportunity to leverage your full breadth of HR business partnering and outstanding relationship building skills. To be successful in this role, you must be willing to be hands-on , appreciating the day to day operational and functional elements of the role while remaining agile enough to manage multiple projects and issues at once. The ideal candidate is someone comfortable working autonomously, with a reporting line into an Australian leader.

 

You bring:

  • Proven experience as an HR Business Partner supporting senior leaders
  • Strong, hands-on capability in New Zealand employment relations and legislation
  • A solutions-oriented mindset with sound judgement and commercial acumen
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills and the confidence to manage up
  • The ability to work independently, prioritise effectively, work at pace and manage competing demands
  • Experience supporting New Zealand and Australia in the same portfolio or working in multi-country environments will be highly regarded.
