About the Role


We have a unique opportunity for a sole legal counsel to join our fantastic team.  Well supported by our Australian legal team and external counsel, this is a varied role enabling you to develop your experience further as a skilled legal counsel. Bring your experience and energy to this dynamic role partnering with our various business units to deliver high quality legal affairs support on matters of strategic, commercial, and reputational importance.   Reporting to the CEO and the Canon Oceania Chief Legal Counsel in Australia, you will work closely with the NZ SLT members and other key stakeholders within our diverse business to: 

 

  • Support the business to deliver on corporate strategy and prioritised business outcomes
  • Provide high-quality legal advice to all parts of the business in a practical and commercially focused way to address risk, resolve issues and maximise the opportunity for the business to deliver against its strategy and goals
  • Support or lead on corporate transactions / business affairs deals and contractual negotiations
  • Provide timely, pragmatic advice on relevant law, including commercial, competition, consumer, intellectual property, privacy, finance/credit and information technology
  • Provide exceptional negotiating, drafting, and reviewing of various commercial contracts and documentation
  • Manage litigation and dispute resolution
  • Oversee corporate governance and compliance, and management of reporting requirements
  • Prepare and deliver training on relevant legal and risk issues

 

 

About You

 

  • You will take your role seriously but not yourself too seriously, so personality and cultural fit is important for both
  • 3+ years’ post qualification experience; previous in-house experience is preferred
  • Hold (or have ability to obtain) a current Practicing Certificate from the New Zealand Law Society
  • Ability to speak articulately and persuasively to individuals at senior management level
  • Strong self-management, resilient, commercially aware and pragmatic, with the ability to manage competing priorities
  • Excellent negotiation, verbal and written communication skills
  • Technological literacy
  • Ability to learn on the job
