About the Role

The Infrastructure Support SQL Engineer is responsible for providing technical infrastructure support in the customer environment. The role requires a good range of technical capabilities in line with technologies that are to be managed for customers as well as the ability to troubleshoot issues. The role is based in Sydney reporting to the Infrastructure Support Team Lead/s.

      Main Duties

  • Manage customer infrastructure – monitoring, reporting, and maintaining SQL Infrastructure a
  • Provide 3rd level technical SQL infrastructure support
  • Identify risks as part of on-boarding activities around SQL technical solutions and provide recommendations for improvements and enhancements to customers.
  • Adhere to incident, security, problem and change management processes as per company/customer standards (ITIL Framework)
  • Communicate effectively with the service delivery function and senior management.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation for customer environment
  • Perform proper root cause analysis and fixes to drive down the re-occurrence of similar incidents.
  • Perform onsite maintenance, advance troubleshooting and root cause analysis of SQL issues
  • Being available to take phone calls for escalated enquiries or tickets & fulfilment of service requests
  • Be an escalation point for projects and other teams in relation to SQL specific matters
  • Provide after hours on-call assistance and/or escalation on a rotating basis
  • Attend customer meetings, provide reports to customers where required. This may include (but not limited to) - Daily Checks, Monthly reports, Post Incident reports

Key Requirements

  • Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in an IT Infrastructure Support role, preferably including experience in a Managed Services Environment,
  • Current MCSA : SQL Server 2012 certification or above
  • Microsoft Azure Database Administrator Associate certification
  • Provide 3rd level Support services for production SQL Enterprise Platforms.
  • Provide technical advice as required for the improvement of SQL Enterprise Platform configurations.
  • Strong understanding and demonstrated experience in the use of following technologies;
    • Strong SQL database administration experience, SQL 2008 and above, including installation, performance optimization and support
    • Ensure optimum database availability, performance, via industry best practices
    • Ensure appropriate user access, data integrity, application security and system recoverability of SQL environment is embedded in the SQL customer environments
    • Provide support on Database backup, restorations, verification, including SQL backup tuning, maintenance plans and disaster recovery
    • Support redundancy and reliability plans, including Always On, Log Shipping, Clustering, Failover Clustering
    • Manage SQL Server Always on Availability Clusters on critical production systems
    • Complete health checks on SQL environments when transitioning new customers under Harbour IT Management
    • Experience working on Azure platforms and managing Azure PAAS solutions
