About the role


Working with the Manager – Marketing Communications,  the PR & External Communications Lead builds awareness and advocacy for Canon with B2B and B2C audiences by: extending reach through the development of new audiences; creating impact through consistent messaging and clear Calls-To- Action; and, converting audiences and product sales through clarity of purpose and audience journey.

Internally, the PR & External Communications Lead functions as part of a tight-knit cross-functional Marcomms team and supports the Canon Sales and Support Group (SSG) B2B and B2C teams comprising Digital Experience, Retail and Customer Experience, Product Marketing, Sales, Service and Support, Legal, and Corporate Communications as well as relevant agency partners.


Key responsibilities include:


  • Lead the day-to-day PR strategy including the delivery of engaging PR materials for key launches and programs
  • Define the overall programs, narratives, and messages that support SSG business strategies and drive SSG’s internal/external communications strategies
  • Write high-quality materials with accuracy of tone, content and appeal to suit the particular purpose, audience, and genre of communication. This includes internal and external audiences.
  • Oversee Canon’s B2B Content publishing model for effective integrated communications to Canon audiences
  • Own the B2B and B2C customer case study program for sales, earned, and marketing content  purposes
  • Lead the Canon product review programs for traditional media, social influencers and advocates to drive recommendations and credibility in the local market
  • Work with key Trading Partners to run mutually beneficial events which lead to Sales and  Profitability
  • Manage issues and crisis communications
  • Execute communications training to enable confident and persuasive message delivery at  critical touchpoints, including media training for key spokespeople


About You


  • 8+ years of senior in-house Communications and Public Relations program leadership experience
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications (Bachelor’s Degree-level majoring in Public Relations, Organisational Communications or similar)
  • Proven experience in designing and delivering earned media communications programs that impact brand/business/product perception in support of business strategy
  • Proven experience across Marketing and Corporate communications and operating in an integrated communications program (paid, owned, earned)
  • Experience in Issues, Crisis and Change management communication
  • Experience in agency management, budget management and reporting
  • Business acumen and analytical skills
  • High-level communication skills, with an emphasis on writing for diverse audiences/genres
  • Strategic thinking and innate ability to develop persuasive communications (internal and external) on the basis of customer/consumer insights
  • Advanced media relations expertise
  • Ability to act as media spokesperson
  • Project management skills and experience
