The Financial Accountant is responsible for maintaining and reporting on the financial health of the organisation. This role involves financial analysis, reconciliations, preparation of financial statements, and ensuring compliance with Australian accounting standards and regulations.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • General Ledger Management:

    • Maintain the general ledger and ensure the accuracy and completeness of financial records.

    • Perform reconciliations of accounts and resolve discrepancies.

  • Financial Compliance:

    • Ensure compliance with Australian tax regulations, including GST and income tax.

    • Prepare and submit required tax returns and reports.

    • Implement and maintain internal controls to safeguard financial assets.

  • Financial Analysis:

    • Analyse P&L financial data on a monthly basis to prepare and verify departmental costs

    • Provide recommendations to management based on financial analysis.

    • Utilise financial software and systems to manage and analyse financial data.

    • Assist in implementing improvements or upgrades to financial systems.

  • Financial Reporting & Reconciliations

    • Assist in the preparation of financial reports related to inventory, including balance sheets and income statements.

    • Provide insights and analysis on inventory-related financial data.

    • Assist with month-end and year-end closing procedures, including journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations related to inventory.

  • Month-End and Year-End Close:

    • Assist in the month-end and year-end closing processes, including journal entries and accruals.

    • Assist in the preparation of month end balance sheet reconciliations

    • Coordinate with external auditors during the audit process.

  • Objectives and Key Results (OKRs) and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

    • Deliver on individual and set departmental OKR and KPI’s as determined from time to time.

  • Continuous Improvement, Safety and Compliance:

    • Continuously learn from successes and failures to refine and enhance improvement strategies.

    • Actively participate in training (including mandatory training) and professional development sessions to enhance skill set.

    • Observe, understand and comply with all Occupational Health and Safety Legislation, Regulations, Codes of Practice, Policies, Procedures and directives.

    • Be proactive and responsible for own actions, and adhere to compliance requirements relevant to your position (eg. legislation, policy and guidelines).\

 

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications i.e. a bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

  • Professional accounting designation (CA, CPA, or equivalent) will be highly regarded.

  • Strong knowledge of Australian Accounting Standards (AASB), International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), and relevant tax regulations.

  • 5+ years of experience in preparing accurate financial statements, monthly, quarterly, and annual reports, and management accounts.

  • Familiarity with Australian tax laws, statutory reporting requirements, and compliance obligations (e.g., BAS, GST, FBT).

  • Highlevel of accuracy in financial record-keeping and reporting.

  • Competency in accounting software (e.g., MYOB, Xero, SAP, Oracle) and advanced Excel skills.

  • Ability to identify and resolve financial discrepancies and improve accounting processes.

  • Proficiency in using financial software and Microsoft Excel.

  • Analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail.

  • Clear and effective communication skills with internal and external stakeholders, including auditors, banks, and regulatory bodies.
